Zedevee collects only what’s needed to run a trustworthy review site. This page explains what we collect, why, and what rights you have over it. For how we use cookies specifically, see our Cookie policy.
What we collect
We collect only what a review needs: your email address for your account, a first name and region shown alongside your review, and the review itself — including the ownership details, pros/cons tags, and financing option you select when writing it.
If you submit the Contact us form, we collect your name, email, and the feedback or bug report you write. If you tell us you don’t want marketing emails or review-reminder emails, we record that preference against your account.
Ownership is self-attested by the reviewer. We do not collect vehicle registrations or keeper details, and we do not carry out external vehicle checks.
Why we collect it
We only use your data where we have a proper basis to do so:
- To provide the service — creating your account, publishing your review, calculating your Owner score and ownership tier, and letting you edit or delete your content.
- Where we have a legitimate interest — keeping the site secure, preventing fake or fraudulent reviews, and understanding how Zedevee is used so we can improve it.
- Where you’ve given consent — sending marketing emails or annual review-reminder emails, which you can opt out of at any time (see “Your choices” below).
- Where the law requires it — for example, responding to a legal request or defending a legal claim.
How we use it
Your first name, region, and review content are shown publicly on the site. Your email address, password, and account details are kept private and are never shown to other users or to the businesses or car makers your reviews relate to.
We don’t run any outside advertising on Zedevee, and we don’t sell your data to anyone.
Who we share it with
We don’t share your personal data with advertisers, and we don’t license or sell it to third parties. We do use a small number of trusted service providers to run the site — for example, to host our database and to send account and email notifications — and they only process your data on our instructions, under an agreement that requires them to keep it secure. If we’re ever required to share data with a regulator, law enforcement, or a court, we’ll only do so where the law requires it.
Where your data is held
Our service providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, consistent with UK data protection law.
How long we keep it
You can edit or delete any review from your account at any time. To remove your account entirely, use the Delete account option on your account page — you’ll be signed out straight away, and if you sign back in within 30 days the deletion is cancelled. After 30 days the deletion is permanent: your personal details are removed and your reviews are kept but anonymised, shown as written by a “Former owner.”
Contact us form submissions are kept for as long as we need them to act on or learn from your feedback, and are deleted or anonymised after that.
Your choices
You can opt out of marketing emails and of our annual review-reminder emails independently of one another, at any time, from your account page.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct it if it’s inaccurate — most of this you can do yourself from your account.
- Delete your account and personal data, as described above.
- Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing, such as marketing.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you think we’ve mishandled your data — though we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.
To exercise any of these rights, get in touch through our Contact us page.
Children
Zedevee is not aimed at, and we don’t knowingly collect data from, anyone under 18 — in line with our Terms of use, which require account holders to be 18 or older.
Keeping your data safe
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your data secure, including restricting who can access it and working with service providers who meet appropriate security standards. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password for your account.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page from time to time, for example as the site changes or the law requires. If we make a significant change, we’ll try to let registered users know. The date at the top of this page (once added) will always show when it was last updated.
